1. 0413 UTC 8 in. f/1.5 Schmidt camera, 5 mins on hypered Fuji 800. Note meteor left of head. Copyright 1997 W. B. Whiddon

2. 0512 UTC 3 mins on Fuji 800 with 105mm Nikon at f/2.8. Hale-Bopp setting in extremely clear Mojave Desert air. The comet head is only about 3 degrees above the horizon! The tail was still visible for 20 mins after the head set. There is a hint of a disconnection event well out in the plasma tail. Copyright 1997 W. B. Whiddon
