This color image of the Earth was taken by the Galileo spacecraft on December 11, 1990, as it departed on its 3 year flight to Jupiter. Antarctica is visible at the bottom of the image, and dawn is rising over the Pacific Ocean.

This color image of the Moon was taken by the Galileo spacecraft on Dec. 9, 1990, at a range of about 350,000 miles. The color composite uses monochrome images taken through violet, red, and near-infrared filters.
