Matt Will Saturn Observations

Date: July 16, 1995
Time: 9:42 to 10:02 UT
CMs: System I; 126.8 - 138.6
System II; 98.9 - 110.1
Instrument: 8 inch f/7 Newtonian Reflector
Magnification: 270x
Seeing: 4 Transparency 0 - 1 (High cirrus clouds and haze reduced transparency along with a wanning gibbous moon and twilight).

Intensity Estimates:

Feature Integrated Light Red W23A filter

SPR 6.0 6.0
SEB 4.5 4.0
EZ 7.0 7.0
Shadow of Ring on Globe	1.0 1.0
NEB 3.5 3.5
NPR 5.0 5.0

The SEB was less prominent than the NEB and perhaps thinner in size too. Poor seeing permitted only course features to be seen. Of course I am using the ALPO intensity scale for my estimates. An intensity value of 7 for the EZ is a control value in which the other values are based on.

Date: May 22, 1995
Time: 10:00 to 10:15UT
CMs: System I; 138.1 - 146.9
System II 86.4 - 94.8
Instrument: 8 inch f/7 Newtonian Reflector
Magnification: 270x Seeing: 6-7
Transparency: 3 (Last Quarter Moon and twilight)

Intensity Estimates:

Feature Integrated Light	Red W23A filter

SPR 6 5.5
STB 6 4.0
SEB 6 6
Shadow of Ring on Ball	0.5 0.5
NEB 3.5* 3.5*
NPR 4.5 4.5

*a certain central component on the belt could be rated at 2.5

An intensity vaule of 7 for the EZ is a control value in which the other values are based on. Also, the estimates for the polar regions take up considerable portions of the temperate zones. I could not see the rings, of course.
