Ulysses: Voyage to the Sun


• Ulysses is a joint National Aeronautics and Space Administration and European Space Agency mission.

• The Ulysses Project Office at the Jet propulsison Laoratory (JPL), in Pasadena, California, a division of the California Institute of Technology, manages Ulysses for NASA.

• First mission to explore the atmosphere over the Sun's poles.

• Ulysses contains a complement of nine highly integrated instruments that measure particles and fields in the solar wind.

• Explored the southern and northern poles in the Summers of 1994 and 1995.

· Saw fast and slow solar wind.
· Magnetic field varied by distance from the Sun but not by latitude.
· No appreciable difference in Cosmic Ray intensity by latitude.
